When it comes to building brands and making business plans, I've done my fair share of research. I have two organizations I've built myself, which have been in service since 2020; I've built the content and written out the business plans, goals, and direction for each organization. Prior to starting my own business, I attended SAE (School of Audio Engineering) and graduated with an Associate degree in Music Business/Entertainment Industry. While there, I was grateful to learn the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship.

Brand Book

The first tip I suggest is creating a Brand Book. This will have all the branding information about your business in one place. Things to include in this are your colors (hex codes), fonts, images, and web assets. These will help you create a cohesive aesthetic for the business and help evoke subconscious associations with the business.

Color Theory

I suggest learning color theory; this will help you create an identity that aligns with what you offer. Colors have meanings and offer subconscious effects to everyone who interacts with them. When you do find those colors, make sure you jot them down and their hex codes. (Hex Codes are the identification for RGB colors). A book I suggest reading for more information on Color Theory is Harmonious Color Schemes; no-nonsense approach using the Color Wheel written by Elaine Farmer

Keywords

In the contemporary digital atmosphere, competition is more adverse than ever. Everyone is posting online, and marketing costs a lot, and you want to make every dollar count. Keywords are words that you will include in posts, flyers, videos, and blogs. You keep them consistent, and in theory, potential customers will search the keyword to find the product or service. Keywords are a part of a larger umbrella relating to SEO, which I won't talk about now, but they are very crucial for the online marketplace in today's time. Think about any ad you've seen or watched and what words you searched for in an attempt to find the product.

Mission Statement

This is a true fundamental, and if you watched basketball, well, it's best to be like Mr. Fundamental. Some might not think they need this, which in a lot of small business cases you might not, but when you plan on elevating, it's a great thing to have. The Mission Statement outlines the mission of the company and what it strives to do. For my small business, it gives me a focus for the content I create, it gives a brand consistency, and a niche. When people require a service, they want something specific, and you want people to know what specific services you offer and how you offer them. Your mission statement will help you do that, then once you go on to fry bigger fish--you build a team, or go in search for a loan, the mission statement will let your team and investors know exactly what you stand for and the values and integrity of the operation.
