Desires

What is it you desire? What are your aspirations? In the world we live in, we are constantly reminded of our wishes, only to be met with a well. Though for your deepest desire, would you rub the bottle?

This is more of an Anthropic topic; urges, vices, desires, emotions, morals —they all have been embedded into the consciousness of man since who knows. It's what it means to be human; however, do we know? Life is filled with trial and error; we all owe gratitude to the guy who jumped off the cliff and thought he could fly.
What is it about us that makes us desire? In ancient texts, you find metaphorical situations related to such topics, even in religious texts; stories that can only allude to our ancestors dealing with the same issues. Not to be cliche, but look at the Garden of Eden, to show my erudition, look at the story of Osiris and his brother Set. Many things are desirable, but in most cases it rests on the extent an individual is willing to go to reach that desire.
I'm not a preacher or a professor, just a human who can see the world like everyone else. Who has desires like everyone else. It's not wrong to have Desires, and who am I to say it's wrong to try to reach that mountain? To be honest, we're all alike, but we don't all like similar stuff.
Wishes and Dreams, we all have them. We don't always achieve them, but it's something that motivates, it's essential to being human. However, from the litany we pride our history and existence on, I interpret it as leading us to rationalize that human instinct and to comprehend it the same as an urge, vice, emotion, or moral. From the story of Achilles, we learn just what a desire can lead to, even if it's achieved. I still have desires, and I'm chasing dreams. I'm not sure if it's right, but neither did our ancestors.
